After five years of continuous legal residence in Poland on a temporary permit, foreign nationals may be eligible to apply for permanent residence. This status provides indefinite right to live and work in Poland and is a stepping stone toward Polish citizenship.
Eligibility Criteria
The primary route requires five years of uninterrupted residence on a temporary residence permit, with absences from Poland not exceeding 10 months total and no single absence exceeding 6 months. The applicant must demonstrate a stable and regular source of income and health insurance.
An alternative route is available for holders of the Karta Polaka (Pole’s Card), who can apply immediately upon receiving a temporary residence permit. Spouses of Polish citizens may apply after three years of marriage combined with two years of residence.
Required Documents
Applications require proof of continuous residence, employment contracts or business registration, tax returns for the previous three years, health insurance confirmation, and proof of accommodation. A Polish language certificate at B1 level is also required.
The application fee is 640 PLN, and the residence card itself costs an additional 100 PLN. Processing typically takes three to six months depending on the Voivodeship Office workload.
