Single Permit Directive: Combining Work and Residence in One Application

The EU Single Permit Directive streamlines immigration by combining work and residence permits into one application β€” learn how it works in practice.

The EU Single Permit Directive simplifies immigration procedures by allowing third-country nationals to apply for work and residence authorization through a single application at one authority. This unified approach reduces bureaucracy and processing times across member states.

How It Works

Instead of separate applications for a work permit and residence permit, applicants submit one combined application. In Poland, this is the temporary residence and work permit (zezwolenie na pobyt czasowy i pracΔ™), commonly known as the jednolite zezwolenie. The Voivodeship Office processes both components simultaneously.

The single permit specifies the employer, position, and employment conditions. It serves as both proof of legal residence and work authorization, eliminating the need to carry multiple documents.

Equal Treatment Rights

Single permit holders are guaranteed equal treatment with nationals in key areas including working conditions, social security, tax benefits, access to goods and services, and recognition of qualifications. These rights are enforced under EU law and cannot be restricted by national legislation.
