The Karta Polaka (Pole’s Card) is a document issued to individuals of Polish descent living in former Soviet Union countries. It confirms a connection to Polish culture and heritage, providing significant benefits for holders who wish to visit, work, or settle in Poland.

Key Benefits

Karta Polaka holders can apply for a free Polish national visa, work in Poland without a work permit, start a business on the same terms as Polish citizens, and access Polish education at reduced fees. They also receive priority in the permanent residence application process and can apply immediately without the standard waiting period.

Upon settling in Poland, Karta Polaka holders receive a one-time financial settlement benefit of approximately 7,000 PLN plus additional monthly support for the first nine months of residence.

Eligibility and Application

Applicants must demonstrate basic knowledge of the Polish language, traditions, and customs. They must also prove Polish ancestry — typically through documents showing that at least one parent or grandparent was of Polish nationality.
